The Chairman’s Corner

The Chairman’s Corner
An Informal Informational Up-Date From
The Desk of the Chairman of the Republican State Committee of Delaware

July 6, 2011

Good Afternoon, and welcome to “The Chairman’s Corner”:

Let’s begin with three dates you may want to mark on your calendar:

July 21-July 30, 2011 – Delaware Republican Presidential Straw Poll – The Republican State Committee of Delaware will be conducting a Republican Presidential Straw Poll during all 10 days of the Delaware State Fair. This is Phase I of “Operation Delaware Relevance”. Please come by our GOP booth at the Fair and cast your ballot for the Republican Presidential Candidate who you believe would be the best person to ensure that Barack Obama joins Jimmy Carter on the list of failed, one term presidents.

Please note that volunteers are still needed to work the booth, so if you have the time and want to share the fun with other Republicans at the Delaware State Fair, please call 302-668-1954 to become a Delaware Presidential Straw Poll Volunteer.

August 20, 2011 – RNC Chairman Reince Priebus Comes to Delaware – Our new RNC Chairman is coming to Delaware on August 20th to help us prepare for 2012. The precise details of exactly when and where the Chairman will be on August 20th are not yet finalized, but please mark your calendars and save that date. We are hoping to hold two events in Sussex on that date, one near Georgetown and another at “The Beach”. Further details will follow in the near future.

October 14, 2011 – Please save this date for “Vicmead” – details to follow.  The annual event held at the Vicmead Hunt Club in Greenville is the Delaware GOP’s premier fundraising event of the year. We are working diligently to obtain a nationally renowned keynote speaker for this event. So please hold the date, details and confirmation of that date will follow.

Now down to business:

As you probably know, the First Session of the 146th General Assembly ended with H.B. 55 still in committee in the Senate. This is the so-called “National Popular Vote Bill” that many have referred to as the “I Hate Delaware Bill”. Your calls to your legislators were very effective and I thank you for your participation in the legislative process. This is a very bad bill for small states like Delaware, so much so that one statistician opined that this bill would reduce Delaware’s relevancy in presidential elections by 44%.

I am sure there will be many times between now and the January Session when you will have occasion to speak with your state senator. When you do, please remind your senator that you oppose HB 55, as being bad for Delaware and bad for our Republic.

All of our grassroots volunteer committees have now met at least once and some have now conducted their second meetings. I thank each member of each of those committees for their hard work to date and I look forward to receiving their first progress reports and recommendations at the end of the summer, if not before.

The newly formed Finance Committee has now met for the first time. I am happy to report that our new Finance Committee is fully committed to rebuilding our party’s finances and to preparing for the 2012 elections.

As the result of legislative redistricting, the Rules Committee will be required to meet in the very near future to carry out its responsibilities with regard to adjusting the current Republican Region alignment. Those Regional Chairs who have not yet done so are urged to immediately inform the Executive Director as to their appointments to that committee. Any Regional Chair seeking clarification or information concerning this matter may contact Seth Wimer at Rules Committee members will be informed in due course concerning the date, time and place of their first meeting.

Over the past few weeks and months many of you have raised questions concerning the Party’s platform. Because Delaware’s Republican State Convention always occurs before the Republican National Convention at which the national platform is adopted, Delaware has historically adopted the Republican National Platform as its own. As you will see when you click here to read the Republican National Platform, it is a comprehensive 60 page document and not readily usable by Delaware Republicans on a everyday basis.

In an effort to address this issue, your Executive Committee has unanimously adopted a “Statement of Republican Guiding Principles” which are available for you to read when you click here.  Both the Republican National Platform and our own “Statement of Republican Guiding Principles” will be posted on our Delaware GOP web site and may be accessed by going to

A very big “THANK YOU” to the vast majority of our rank and file members who initially pledged donations to “The New Beginnings Fund” and have fulfilled those pledges. “THANK YOU”! Every donation , large and small, from our loyal and dedicated grassroots, rank and file Delaware Republicans sends a huge message to every other Republican and to every Delaware voter that “together, we are building a new beginning” for our Party. For those few who have made a pledge but who have not yet fulfilled that pledge, I ask that you do so in the very near future.
